NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commented Thursday on US President Donald Trump’s announcement of the withdrawal of all US troops from Afghanistan for Christmas. The question of the withdrawal of the armed forces from the country will be jointly adopted by all the participants in the operation in Afghanistan.

Stoltenberg did not respond directly to the question whether the plan for the withdrawal of American troops had been agreed with the allies, but recalled that the reason NATO troops were in Afghanistan was the attack on the United States.
The NATO secretary general stressed that in the interests of global security, Afghanistan must not be allowed to once again become a platform for terrorists.
Stoltenberg confirmed that NATO supports the peace process and welcomes negotiations between the official Kabul and the Taliban.
We will recall, Trump announced plans to reduce the number of US troops in Afghanistan to 4,000.
Earlier in Germany, the United States was said to have informed its allies of a further reduction in the number of US troops in Afghanistan as part of NATO’s “Resolute Support” Peacekeeping Mission.
