The Venice Commission published a Joint Urgent Opinion on the legislative situation regarding anti-corruption mechanisms in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine No. 13-r / 2020. The document will be presented for approval in the plenary session on 11 from December.

The opinion was published on the website of the Venice Commission.

The document says that the fight against corruption is an important element
State, but the role of respect for the Constitution is also highlighted.

“They go hand in hand. Parliament and the executive must respect the role
Of the Constitutional Court as custodian of the Constitution and must comply with its decisions, “says the decision.

In particular, the Venice Commission recommended the restoration of the article, annulled by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, which provided for a punishment in the form of imprisonment for inaccurate declaration.

We will recall that last week Zelensky asked the Venice Commission to assess the state of the anti-corruption system in Ukraine following the Constitutional Court’s decision on liability for inaccurate statements. Zelensky also asked to assess whether the CCU met all the requirements when making its decision.

Subsequently, the Office of the President announced that the Venice Commission could issue an opinion before December 10.
