Five rockets were fired at Bagram airfield from an abandoned truck parked in the village of Kalandar Gil.

In Afghanistan, rockets hit the main US-NATO base in the Bagram region of Parwan province, north of the capital Kabul. This was said by the representative of the provincial government Wahida Shahkar, Xinhua reported on Saturday, December 19.

“Five rockets were fired at Bagram airfield from an abandoned truck parked in the Kalandar-Khil village of Bagram district around 5:50 am local time on Saturday,” Shahkar said.

He added that seven missiles were not fired and were deactivated by the Afghan security forces.

There have yet been no reports of victims or the extent of the damage. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Bagram Airfield, located about 50 kilometers north of Kabul, has served as the main US and NATO military base in Afghanistan for the past 19 years.

Earlier this week, radical Taliban militants attacked a checkpoint in the Afghan province of Baghlan. The attack killed at least 13 members of the country’s security forces and wounded five more.
