US citizens are prohibited from doing business with Andrei Derkach
Andrei Derkach is involved in foreign interference in an attempt to undermine the upcoming presidential elections in the United States, according to the US Treasury.
The US Department of the Treasury imposed personal sanctions against Verkhovna Rada People’s Deputy Andrei Derkach and three Russian citizens. This was reported on the agency’s website on Thursday, September 10.
Andriy Derkach was included in the list of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which includes natural and legal persons for reasons of national security. The assets of the citizens on this list are frozen in the United States and Americans are prohibited from doing business with them.
It is noted that sanctions were introduced against Derkach due to his attempt to influence the 2020 United States presidential elections.
“Derkach, a member of the Ukrainian parliament, has been an active Russian agent for more than a decade, maintaining close ties with the Russian intelligence services. Derkach participated, sponsored, retained or was directly or indirectly involved in foreign interference in an attempt to undermine the upcoming 2020 US presidential election. ” , – said in the message from the United States Treasury.
In addition, sanctions were introduced against the Russians Anton Andreev, Daria Aslanova and Artem Lifshits.
“This action is a clear signal to Moscow and its representatives about the inadmissibility of such activities,” added the US Treasury.
It is known that on May 19, People’s Deputy Andriy Derkach published audio materials that, according to him, may indicate the influence of former US Vice President Joseph Biden on the fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.
According to Derkach, he received the recordings from investigative journalists and Poroshenko allegedly made the recording of the conversations himself.
Later, Poroshenko called the “tapes” an attempt to influence America’s attitude toward Ukraine. And at Biden’s headquarters, the tapes, where he supposedly speaks to Poroshenko, were called an edited “blackout”.
The day before, the US Treasury announced that a Deutsche Bank subsidiary in the United States would pay a large fine for violating the Crimean sanctions introduced in 2014.
