The United States imposed new sanctions against Russia in connection with cybercrime, interference in American elections, and the situation in Ukraine.

The lists include eight Russians and immigrants from the Russian Federation, as well as seven organizations in Russia and Finland. This is stated in a message on the website of the United States Department of the Treasury on Wednesday, September 23.

  • Shortly after the annexation of Crimea, diplomatic and economic sanctions were introduced against Russia and various Russian officials and politicians.

  • The United States and the EU have created their own sanctions lists for the Russians involved in the annexation of Crimea. These people’s foreign assets were frozen and their right to enter America and Europe was removed.

  • Since then, the United States and the EU have introduced new sanctions against Russia on a regular basis, after the outbreak of war in Donbas, following the crash of Malaysia’s Boeing 777 flight MH17. Subsequently, both the G7 countries and the partner countries of the European Union and the United States of America, as well as NATO, joined.

The EU sanctions against Russia included, among other things, a ban on investment in Russian projects, a ban on the sale of military and dual-use goods to Russia.

In addition, there are the following sanctions against Russia:

  • limit access to elementary school and secondary markets EU capital for the five main public financial institutions and their controlling subsidiaries established outside the EU, as well as for the three largest Russian energy and three defense companies;

  • export and import ban weapons

  • prohibition for the export of dual-use goods for military purposes or end users in Russia;

  • restrict Russia’s access to some sensitive technologies and services that can be used for oil production and exploration.

The European Union, on Thursday, September 10, officially extended for six months the sanctions against 175 people and 44 organizations involved in undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

On September 23, Russia imposed sanctions against the European Union. They refer to the prohibition of entry into the territory of the Russian Federation for various officials.
