China wants to buy Sich Motor

It is not the first time that Washington has opposed the Chinese purchase of one of the world’s largest aircraft engine manufacturers.

The United States is concerned about China’s investment in the Ukrainian industry. US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said this to President Volodymyr Zelensky in a telephone conversation, according to the State Department website on Aug. 29.

For example, the head of US diplomacy mentioned Beijing’s attempts to acquire the Ukrainian company Motor Sich. He called China’s investments “hostile.”

It is not the first time that Washington has opposed the Chinese purchase of one of the world’s largest aircraft engine manufacturers.

So in August 2019, John Bolton, who was then the national security adviser to the president of the United States, tried to prevent the sale of Motor Sich to a Chinese company.

Bolton believed that a successful deal would allow China access to important defense technology.

The Ukrainian company Motor Sich is engaged in the production of aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines. Its products are used in more than 100 countries around the world.

In 2016, Chinese investors acquired the corporate rights to Motor Sich, but to this day they cannot fully dispose of it due to blocking actions from the Antitrust Committee, the SBU and the Attorney General’s Office.
