The Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform – For Life” announced the start of the procedure for the impeachment of President Volodymyr Zelensky due to the blocking of three opposition television channels, reports TASS.
The faction made this decision at an extraordinary congress, which took place on February 4. The opposition accused the Ukrainian leader of multiple violations of the law and the current constitution, complicity in the introduction of personal sanctions against Verkhovna deputy Rada Taras Kozak and blocking his channels 112 Ukraine, ZIK and NewsOne.
The presidential office, deputies from other parties and members of the Cabinet of Ministers have not yet reacted to the news of the start of the procedure.
On February 2, Zelenskiy put into effect the decision of the Security and National Defense Council on the application of sanctions against several opposition television channels. After his decree, they stopped broadcasting. Personal sanctions have also been imposed on Taras Kozak, deputy of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, owner of the Novosti media holding company.
The faction called the incident “an act of usurpation of power, total censorship, a mechanism to establish dictatorship and tyranny in the country, a violation of all international principles and norms of democracy” and promised to consider the accusation.
