Ukrainian authorities ignored the funeral of Kharkiv mayor Gennady Kernes, reports “Strana.ua”.
Senior state officials will not come to say goodbye to him. The military also refused to participate in the mourning ceremony, although they held a rehearsal the day before.
As recounted at the Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University, on December 22, near the city’s opera and ballet theater, a rehearsal of the farewell ceremony with Kernes was held, to which they felt attracted the military from the Kharkiv garrison.
According to the statute, an honorary escort is sent in case of burial of persons, in whose official ceremonies the president of Ukraine, the president of the Verkhovna Rada and the prime minister participate. According to preliminary information, the first people from the state were supposed to attend the funeral, so the head of the garrison ordered 50 soldiers to participate in the ceremony.
“Later, when it was learned that these people would not attend the mayor’s funeral, the order was annulled,” the university explained.
Kernes died on December 17 at the Berlin clinic “Charite”, where he was transferred after complications caused by the coronavirus.
