Mikhail Metreveli gave Football.ua the first exclusive interview as a candidate for the position of UPL president.
Before publishing the full version of the material, we will familiarize readers with the answer to one of the questions regarding the possible assistance of football authorities to clubs to overcome the consequences of the coronavirus:
– You say you’re on the side of small clubs. How can UPL support them in a pandemic, especially a financial one?
– Yes, in fact, this problem will be the first challenge that UPL will have to face. The coronavirus did not miss anyone. The clubs and their owners lost revenue. In this situation, the soccer authorities are obliged to help. For example, last week, UEFA officially allocated Ukraine € 4.3 million to overcome the effects of the coronavirus on football.
I think that in the current situation of force majeure, the UAF could support professional clubs. And not only 12 UPL clubs, but also all First and Second League clubs, as well as professional women’s clubs. A total of about 65 teams. It will be fair for the UAF to distribute these 4.3 million euros from UEFA in equal amounts to all the clubs. Believe me, for many teams this amount of 60-65 thousand euros can be a guarantee of survival in current conditions. Due to this amount, clubs will be able to pass coronavirus tests, prepare for quarantine, start training and supporting employees: assistants and temporary staff, stadium, base employees, etc.
Recall that it was previously learned that Shakhtar nominated Metreveli as a candidate for the presidential election. This was confirmed by Pitmen CEO Sergey Palkin.
Add hthen the presidential election It will take place on May 25. Officially Three candidates have been nominated.
