The final approval of the law on the immunity of the former president of Russia will allow the current head of state, Vladimir Putin, to receive immunity against criminal or administrative prosecution, as well as against detention, arrest, search, questioning or personal search.
The State Duma of the Russian Federation approved the draft law on December 9 in third reading, whichthat will allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to receive “lifetime immunity”… This is stated on the Gosuduma website.
The document was supported by 356 deputies, 41 opposed.
Then the bill is sent to the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation. If accepted there, the immunity of the former head of Russia will mean that he cannot be brought to criminal or administrative responsibility, as well as detained, arrested, searched, interrogated or registered in the body, RIA-Novosti notes.
This rule will apply to the living and office premises occupied by the former President of Russia, the cars he uses, the communications equipment, the documents and luggage that belong to him, as well as the correspondence.
Only the Council of the Russian Federation can deprive the former president of such guarantees on the basis of the State Duma’s accusation of treason or other serious crime. In this case, the charge must be confirmed by the Supreme and Constitutional Courts of Russia.
This bill was submitted to the State Duma on November 5 by the head of the Federation Council committee on constitutional legislation and state construction, Andrei Klishas, and the head of the Duma committee on construction and state legislation , Pavel Krasheninnikov.
On November 17 it was adopted in the first reading and on December 8 in the second.
