In the Odessa region, a Mercedes-Benz driver struck a 33-year-old cyclist who died at the scene. The culprit of the accident, who was allegedly the drunken son of a former police officer, tried to escape the scene of the accident with the body of a man fallen in the trunk.
The accident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, in the village of Bolshaya Mikhailovka, Razdelnyansky district. This is reported by the police communication department of the region. (to see the photo, scroll the news to the end).
According to preliminary information, a 30-year-old driver of a foreign car, being inattentive when driving and not choosing a safe speed, collided with a bicycle traveling in the same direction.
Relatives of the deceased local say that that tragic day he rode a bicycle in diapers for his 10-month-old son. It is they who say that the son of a former policeman was driving the car, under whose wheels the man was.
According to them, at the time he was putting the cyclist’s body in the trunk of his car, he was seen by a woman who lives nearby. She started screaming. The driver, on the other hand, quickly got into the car and started running, but after a kilometer he staged a new accident: he crashed the car into a bridge post.
“After that, he threw the body to the side of the road and started hitting his head, as if both of them were driving in a car and had an accident together,” said a relative of the late Valentin, reports TSN.
Law enforcement officers have arrested the culprit of the accident, he is now in custody. The police say they took biomaterial samples for the investigation; previously, the man was intoxicated.
Regarding the fact of the traffic accident, criminal proceedings were recorded in Part 2 of Art. 286 (violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons operating vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The driver was arrested in accordance with art. 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. Investigative actions continue.
