Keith Dayton to be Ambassador

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, presented Keith Dayton’s candidacy for the post of Ambassador to Ukraine to the United States Senate. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the White House press service.

The corresponding message appeared Thursday night, May 14.

“Appoint Keith Dayton of Washington as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America in Ukraine,” the statement said.

It was previously reported that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, chose the candidacy of retired Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton for the post of Ambassador to Ukraine.

Dayton is currently the director of the Center. George C. Marshall in Germany. He is also the United States’ chief defense adviser in Ukraine. Previously, Dayton served as a military attaché at the embassy in Russia; speaks Russian and German.

The post of head of the diplomatic mission in Kiev has been vacant since May 2019, when former Ambassador Marie Jovanovic was called to Washington. Jovanovic was appointed to Ukraine in 2016 under President Barack Obama, and in May 2019 she left office at Trump’s personal request.
