Hungarian secretary of state could not come to Ukraine due to quarantine ban

Potapi planned on September 3 to attend the opening of the 10th school in Uzhgorod, rebuilt at the expense of the Hungarian government.

The Hungarian Secretary of State for National Policy, Arpad Potapi, was unable to come to the Transcarpathian region to open the renovated Hungarian school. This was reported on Friday, September 4, by the newspaper Evropeyskaya Pravda, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Hungarian media.

Potapi planned on September 3 to attend the opening of the 10th school in Uzhgorod, rebuilt at the expense of the Hungarian government.

The arrival of a senior Hungarian official was blocked due to the recent decision of the Uraina Cabinet of Ministers to ban the entry of foreigners in connection with the coronavirus epidemic.

Ukraine could make an exception for the Budapest government delegation led by Potapi, but refused to do so, said Laszlo Kuti, the Hungarian consul in Uzhgorod.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, in turn, said that Potapi’s entry ban was not political in nature and condemned Kuti’s remarks about the incident.

“Such rhetoric from the diplomat testifies to a lack of respect for the laws of the host country and deliberately misleads the public, not contributing to the normalization of relations between Ukraine and Hungary,” stressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
