Investigators from the State Investigation Office reported on the actions taken in the investigation of the accident of a military plane in the Kharkiv region.

The State Investigation Office on Monday, September 28, reported on the progress of the investigation into the plane crash of the AN-26 military plane in the Kharkiv region.

It is noted that the investigation was initiated on the basis of a crime under the article on violation of flight rules and preparation for them, which had serious consequences (article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

As of September 28, the RRB investigators carried out a series of investigative actions, namely:

  • inspection of the scene, during which a significant amount of physical evidence and two flight recorders (“black boxes”) were identified

  • examination of the mortal remains of 25 victims with the participation of forensic experts;

  • assigned 26 forensic medical examinations;

  • seized fuel and lubricant samples from the aircraft and soil samples at the scene;

  • Documents on the organization and conduct of the flights were seized from the military unit;

  • the information and documents were obtained from the Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, the State Air Traffic Services Enterprise of Ukraine, the Antonov State Enterprise, the Air Force command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;

  • more than 40 people were interviewed as witnesses;

  • the selection of biological samples for an additional DNA examination of 18 relatives of the deceased cadets and 7 relatives of the crew members was ensured;

  • designated 25 genetic and molecular tests;

  • Documents were requested for the repair and extension of the useful life of the engines used in the aircraft;

  • 7 requests were made for the seizure of things and documents seized during the examinations, in order to further guarantee the performance of genetic and molecular examinations.

The progress of the investigation is under the special control of the RRB leadership.

It is also reported that steps are being taken to return the bodies of the dead to their families as soon as possible.

The pre-trial investigation continues.

Let us remind you that on the night of September 25, the An-26 plane crashed near Chuguev. I was on a training flight. On board were 27 people, of whom 20 were cadets from the Kharkov Military University. 26 people died. Only one cadet survived.
