Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov, after a collision with Norwegian Johannes Klebo at the World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, finished third, although he was in the lead before the incident. In January, Bolshunov had a conflict with a Finnish skier.

On March 7, at the finish line of the World Ski Championships marathon in Oberstdorf, Germany, Russian Alexander Bolshunov broke a pole after contact with Norwegian skier Johannes Klebo and came third to the finish line. It is reported by Eurosport.

Before the crash, Bolshunov was in the lead. After his stick broke, he let Klebo and another Norwegian, Emil Iversen, carry on.

After the finish, the Russian skier “was furious”. RIA Novosti claims that Bolshunov burst into tears “in front of everyone’s eyes.”

The jury for the competition in Oberstdorf did not reveal Klebo’s guilt, but Russia protested and was satisfied: Klebo was disqualified and Iversen received a gold medal. Bolshunov won a silver medal, Eurosport notes.

For Bolshunov, this is already the second conflict with rivals in the 2021 world tournaments. On January 24, at the end of the relay race in the cross-country World Cup, which was held in the Finnish city of Lahti, Bolshunov hit the representative of the Finnish national team Yoni Mäki with a stick, and after the goal he ran into the Finn. Bolshunov was disqualified and the result of the Russian team was canceled.

Bolshunov is a four-time Olympic medalist in 2018, a four-time silver medalist at the 2019 World Championships.
