In the textbook “Defense of the Fatherland” for the tenth grade, the authors illustrated information about the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a snapshot of the Russian army.
Blogger “Fashik Donetskiy” drew attention to the photo on Telegram. It is signed as “Modern equipment of a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” (scroll to the bottom of the page to view).
According to the blogger, in fact, it is about Russian soldiers in “warrior” costume.
“The first soldier in the photo has a 100 series AK, and the second, in the background, if I’m not mistaken, has a weapon made in the Russian Federation,” he said.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Education approached the team of textbook authors for clarification. The authors responded that the textbook was published in 2018 and as of December 10, 2020, no comments had been received on the photo above.
“This photograph was used to illustrate samples of modern military equipment (summer camouflage uniform, ballistic helmet, goggles, bulletproof vests, etc.). The equipment was just beginning to arrive in large quantities to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, even with the help of volunteers does not contain any identification mark of any army in the world. Therefore, the authors considered it appropriate to use this photo to demonstrate the direction of the development of equipment for soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, “he said in the message.
The Ministry of Education and Science ordered the Institute for the Modernization of Educational Content to contact the armed support experts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to obtain an expert assessment of the equipment and weapons shown in the photo.
“Over the past six years, unfortunately, the quality of the preparation of school educational literature, which is printed with state funds, has dropped significantly. Errors, inaccuracies, information in textbooks, etc.” – Complained to the ministry.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, a ninth grade chemistry textbook indicates that baking soda helps in the prevention and treatment of cancer, as well as teeth whitening. The authors took this information from the site of the Association of Pensioners of Ukraine.
The Education Ministry said mention of sodium bicarbonate treatment for cancer would be removed from the textbook.
