The Parliament of Moldova lowers the retirement age in the country

The opposition believes that this will lead to an increase in the number of pensioners and will not allow an increase in the size of pensions either.

In Moldova, the retirement age was lowered to 62 years for men and 57 years for women. The corresponding decision was made on Wednesday, December 16, by the country’s parliament, RIA Novosti reported.

The Socialist Party this week launched an initiative to lower the retirement age for men to 62 years and for women to 57 years. In addition, MPs believe that women who have five or more children should retire at age 54.

“The bill to reduce the retirement age was approved in the second reading with the votes of 54 deputies,” Grechany said, noting that after being signed by the president, the bill will take effect on January 1. of 2021.

The opposition has criticized the bill because it believes it will lead to an increase in the number of pensioners and will not allow an increase in the size of pensions.

The decision to increase the retirement age for men and women to 63 was signed by President Nikolai Timofti in 2016.

It was previously reported that two cumulative pension systems will be launched in Ukraine.
