On Election Day, the KIU hotline received dozens of calls with a question.
According to the head of the KIU, the collapse in turnout was due to the fact that the Health Ministry did not inform voters that the elections, despite the quarantine imposed, would take place.
The reason for the record low turnout during the second round of local elections on November 15 is the introduction of a weekend quarantine, as well as a failure by the Ministry of Health, which did not adequately inform citizens that, Despite the restrictions, the elections will take place, said the head of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine (KIU) Alexey Koshel during a briefing on Monday, November 16.
“Turnout in local elections was not only low, it was a collapse in turnout. Turnout in local elections became the lowest in the last 10 years,” Koshel summarized.
According to him, dozens of calls from voters interested in whether the elections will take place on Sunday, November 15, with the quarantine restrictions imposed, fell on the KIA hotline.
“The leadership of the Ministry of Health focused on the work of restaurants, cafes, sports facilities, etc. and in no way remembered more than 1,600,000 voters who were able to participate in the November 15 elections,” said the head of the KIU, adding that it is now important to avoid a repeat of the situation in the November 22 elections.
As we previously reported, turnout in the second round of mayoral elections in Ukraine was 24%.
We also add that in the Kiev region in the mayoral elections they voted for Trump.
