The quarantine in Uman will be hardened during the Hasidic pilgrimage

The quarantine will be tightened in Uman from September 15 to 21, 2020. These measures are associated with the massive Hasidic pilgrimage to Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year).

The Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers, Oleg Nemchinov, announced this on Telegram.

By decision of the State Commission for Safety and Technogenic and Environmental Emergencies, the Cherkasy Regional State Administration, together with the Ministry of Health, the State Emergency Service and the security forces, received instructions to take a series of measures from 15 to September 21, 2020.

Restrictions in the pilgrimage area:

  • the prohibition of massive religious and cultural events involving more than one person for every 10 square meters of a building or area;
  • the prohibition of public catering work with the organization of leisure;
  • prohibition of work in other catering establishments from 00:00 to 07:00, except for food delivery orders and take away;
  • prohibition of concerts, discos and nightclubs;
  • spontaneous trade ban;
  • prohibition to visit educational institutions in the pilgrimage area.

Also, the Hasidic pilgrimage area should be limited. quarantine checkpoints… In addition, the operational headquarters for the safe celebration of Rosh Hashanah will meet daily in Uman and will include law enforcement officials, doctors, local authorities and representatives of the Jewish community.

At the entrance to Uman, a checkpoint will also be set up with the police, the military from the National Guard, doctors and employees of the State Emergency Service. In the pilgrimage area and in the main places, markings should be provided to maintain social distance.

It is also reported that in Uman will assign a separate room, which will be used for observation in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak among pilgrims. In addition, there will be a separate observatory for employees of the state authorities who will guarantee order.

Places of pilgrimage, places of worship, as well as places of feeding and residence must be periodically disinfected. Instructed to explain the measures against the epidemic by placing banners in English and Hebrew.

Local authorities must also install turnstiles at entrances to religious buildings and provide temperature controls.
