Already this week it will be known whether a blockade will be introduced in Ukraine. The government will publish a full list of new restrictive measures during the next Cabinet meeting. RBC-Ukraine has collected all the information about the possible strengthening of the quarantine, its conditions and terms.

A strict quarantine is required in January

Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said on Facebook that the government will be forced to impose stricter restrictions, even though the epidemic situation has stabilized somewhat in recent weeks.

Thanks to the weekend quarantine, it was possible to reduce the burden on the medical system. However, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers suggested that, given the dynamics of the incident, the quarantine should be strengthened as of next month.

What do they plan to ban?

Ukraine’s chief sanitary physician Viktor Lyashko, in a meeting with media representatives, said that during the shutdown it is supposed:

  • the closure of schools and kindergartens;
  • government agencies will not work;
  • prohibition to serve visitors in restaurants, cafes, bars;
  • the operation of entertainment establishments is prohibited;
  • the activity of gyms, gyms will be prohibited;

What can work during a confinement?

  • public transportation (limiting passengers by the number of seats);
  • grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations;
  • ski resorts;
  • hotels (breakfast is allowed);
  • churches (limited to 1 person per 5 square meters);
  • catering establishments may work only in the mode of delivery and issuance of orders;
  • the closure of international traffic is not foreseen; Ukrainian citizens will be allowed to enter and leave the country.

The final decision on the restrictions will be made on December 9.

A full list of restrictive measures will be presented on Wednesday at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. As Denis Shmygal pointed out, the government is working on a list of quarantine measures together with the heads of cities and the regional state administration.

At the same time, representatives of local authorities support the following bans during the strict quarantine period:

  • celebration of festive concerts, discos and nightclubs, public events on the premises, hostels, shopping and entertainment centers – 100% of respondents;
  • the work of museums, cinemas and theaters, catering establishments with the organization of leisure – 95%;
  • holding New Year’s fairs, gym activities and fitness centers – 90%.

The blockage can last 3 weeks

A total blockade will reduce the incidence of COVID-19 to 6-8 thousand new daily cases. As noted in the Health Ministry, the exact timing of the shutdown is still being discussed, but the restrictions will be effective if introduced for 3 weeks.

According to the calculations, a three-week quarantine will allow February and March to pass normally without maximum incidence rates and without the need for another lockdown.

According to Viktor Lyashko, in mid-February, the epidemiological situation may be the most tense, since an outbreak of seasonal flu is added to the incidence of coronavirus.

Earlier, the head of the Health Ministry, Maxim Stepanov, said that he would propose a strict quarantine planned from the first days of January, in order to relieve the medical system before the seasonal flu epidemic.

Furthermore, RBC-Ukraine, citing government sources, reported that improved quarantine in Ukraine could be introduced from January 2 to 23, but this is not a total lockdown, but rather a tightening of restrictions.

Remember, according to the law, the government must warn the population and companies about the introduction of new quarantine restrictions at least 7 days before they come into effect.
