Joint inspection failure: Bankovaya was afraid of Facebook
Yesterday’s main event did not take place: the joint inspection of representatives of the OSCE, Ukraine and the separatist “republics” at the positions of the Ukrainian army near Horlivka was canceled at the last minute. Canceled due to new requirements from the Ukrainian side, which sound differently in different versions: in one case, it is a counterclaim to inspect the positions of the separatists, in the other, about the inadmissibility of the inspectors in military uniform with the symbols of the “DPR” and the need for them to have certificates of absence of coronavirus.
But both versions have a flaw: Neither of the listed requirements was presented on Wednesday, when the deal was concluded. They were invented on the eve of the event with the obvious purpose of interrupting it.
The desire to interrupt the joint inspection can only be explained by one thing: Bankova feared the wave of noise raised by former officials of the time of Petro Poroshenko and nationalists on social media, threatening the third Maidan and demanding to kill representatives of the “republics. “separatists. I was scared, although it was only the effect of the noise: the “war group” did not take any real action and did not even plan. And with this, Vladimir Zelensky’s team once again demonstrated its weakness.
Although, even a few hours before the inspection was canceled, Bankova issued scathing statements to her predecessors that everything that was happening was no worse than what had happened under the previous regime, and overall she was clearly determined to abide by the deal. from Minsk.
Yes, and giving the green light to a joint inspection, the Office of the President could not help but understand what the reaction of the gun looters and the nationalists would be. Consequently, the authorities had to be prepared for the wave of information yesterday morning. But it turned out not.
Yesterday’s result for the peace process in Ukraine is extremely negative. Instead of demonstrating real steps to reduce escalation, the authorities showed weakness and made the “war party” feel victorious even without serious efforts.
Why does Lutsenko want Zelensky to attack Crimea?
One of the elements of yesterday’s psychological attack on Bankova was a press conference held by former NSDC secretary Alexander Turchinov and former attorney general Yuriy Lutsenko. The very fact that these two names were together caused a resonance, as Turchynov and Lutsenko were never noticed in mutual love. But, apparently, the absence in public policies forces the creation of this type of alliance.
However, the press conference turned out to be unusual not only because of the combination of names, but also because of the issues that were raised at it. The main one was the “zrada” around the “Wagnerites”, whose special operation was allegedly interrupted by the betrayal of some officials of the Presidency.
Of course, Turchinov had to answer the uncomfortable issue of handing over Crimea to Russia, but the main thing remained different: the former attorney general said that President Zelensky should launch an offensive in Crimea, since now the state has all the necessary resources for it. .
True, it seemed strange that Turchinov did not make such a statement, who, by virtue of his previous position, was actually committed to the necessary resources for defense or offense. And how the Attorney General may have known about these resources remains a mystery.
But the most important mystery remains what kinds of resources Ukraine has acquired during Zelenskiy’s presidency that allow it to launch a successful offensive. And Lutsenko, after all, was probably talking about a successful offensive – he couldn’t have proposed an operation that would end with a new Ilovaisk!
And the former attorney general could not speak of the resources that the state had in Poroshenko’s time, because in this case he would have gone to his former leader two years ago and offered to launch an offensive. And since he did not offer and since Poroshenko did not give the order to attack after 2014, it means that such resources did not exist at the time of the transfer of power in 2019. And they only appeared in the last year and a half.
It is true that when you try to remember what appeared during this time, which was not the case with Poroshenko, one thing comes to mind: the fund to combat the coronavirus.
Kiev “orange”: will gyms in the capital be closed?
The Cabinet has published a quarantine “schedule” for the next two weeks, starting Monday. The main news is that Kiev is in the orange zone, worse than just the red one.
The news is very indicative, since now the whole country will closely follow the capital, how the local government will react to the need to introduce “orange” restrictions and how the central government will react to the reaction of the mayor’s office.
And some of the orange zone restrictions are not too important for the population of Kiev as a whole, but they are always heard. First of all, restrictions on the work of gyms and fitness clubs (no more than one person per 10 square meters). And also the ban on the operation of entertainment venues and restaurants at night.
But so far, the executive branch has not been very successful in fighting the local authorities: Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Chernivtsi continue the riots, unconditionally canceling certain restrictions in the red zone in which they are located. By the way, the three regional centers remained “red” next week and will therefore continue their confrontation with the central government.
Bogdan appointed agent for Ermak Poroshenko and president of Groysman
One of the loudest topics yesterday was the interview of the former head of the Office of the President, Andrei Bogdan, with journalist Dmitry Gordon. The consequence of this interview has already become Bogdan’s summons to the State Bureau of Investigation, where they want to hear from him facts confirming his words about tacit agreements with Russian officials on the state of Crimea, air communication with Russia, exchange of prisoners and other subjects.
It is clear that the former “gray cardinal” Zelensky will not tell any facts and it is unlikely that he will appear at the RRB. Since this whole interview was a touch of resentment against Zelensky and hatred for Andrey Yermak, who survived him with Bankova.
In addition, he did not take wings to the latter from the positions from which they usually beat the current head of the Presidency. In other words, he did not accuse Ermak of working for Russian intelligence; on the contrary, according to Bogdan, the new “gray cardinal” Bankova works for Poroshenko, thanks to which the former president remains at large.
Admittedly, this doesn’t really fit the known facts that Attorney General Ruslan Ryaboshapka, who actually covered Poroshenko, was supported by Andrei Bogdan, and not at all by his replacement.
And of the “interesting things” we can highlight Bogdan’s forecast on the name of the future president. He named four options: Vitali Klitschko, Vladimir Groisman, Dmitry Razumkov and Andrey Portnov.
Not all of these options seem serious today, but perhaps Bogdan still has a political edge. We will check it in the elections.
Cyprus gift to father: sanctions blocked
The introduction of EU sanctions against Belarus has been postponed. This happened because of Cyprus, which blocked the adoption of a decision on the punishment of Alexander Lukashenko.
The Cypriot leadership is unlikely to have special positive emotions in relation to the father. And, in general, they hardly have any emotions towards Belarus. It is not about her at all, but about Turkey.
Cyprus demanded that the EU impose sanctions on Turkey in relation to gas production in the Eastern Mediterranean Cypriot economic zone. But, although the Turks are behaving against the legal norms of the European Union, violating the Cypriot economic space, Brussels is in no rush to put this issue on the agenda.
The reason for the EU’s reluctance to deal with Cyprus’s claims is banal: Turkey is a powerful economy and a serious trading partner for several large European states, starting with Germany. And where Berlin’s economic interests are at stake, even the most legitimate EU decisions get bogged down in legal delays.
However, the Cyprus management showed that, curiously, the main EU states are not very interested in the Belarus issue either. When Berlin and Paris really need to make decisions, they also persuaded much more serious partners, for example Italy at the time of the extension of sanctions against Russia in 2017. And here the question, it seems, was left to chance, which led to failure.
But this is a purely propaganda failure, which will undoubtedly please Lukashenka, but it will be short-term. Berlin and Paris will not allow a second prick: very soon Cyprus will forget its claims and will begin to resent the violation of the right of Belarusians to a democratic election on equal terms with others.
