Zorya got off to an unsuccessful start to the Europa League group stage, losing two games to English Leicester and Portuguese Braga. Therefore, in order to keep hoping to reach the playoffs, Viktor Skripnik’s pupils were content with just one win today. However, the same situation was with the Greek club, in the starting line-up in which Dmitry Chygrynskyy and Evgeny Shakhov, who we know well, entered the field. The guests also got zero points. In short, the outcome of the fight was very important to both opponents.
Unfortunately for the Ukrainian fans, AEK took the lead already in the 7th minute. Livaya received the ball from the left in the home team’s penalty area and managed to make an accurate pass to the center from under the defender to Tankovic, who for some reason was left completely alone without supervision. He hit the goal and the ball, hitting Tsyganiks’ leg, was in the goal net.
Of course, the Zorya players immediately rushed forward with great forces to recover, but practically did not come to blows. But the counterattacks by the Greek team seemed much more dangerous. Then, in the 15th minute, Tankovich himself was about to score a double, but Shevchenko stopped him. Four minutes later, Zorya’s own goalkeeper made a mistake by hitting the ball into Levi’s legs. It’s good that everything went well in this episode.
Perhaps the most active attacker on the home team was Kochergin. It was from him that the greatest danger came to the doors of the Greeks. In the 23rd minute, after a pass from the right wing, Vladislav made his first blow in this game, but the ball flew over the goal. Two minutes later, Zorya’s midfielder shot from far off the bottom, but visiting goalkeeper Tsidotas was in place.
In minute 34, the defense of the Ukrainians returned to play without success. This time, “AEK” made a quick counterattack from the center and their players managed to reach Shevchenko’s goal without obstacles. Tankovic has now become the scorer of an assist, and his teammate and Greek club captain Mantalos simply “shot” the home team’s goal from close range.
Until the end of the half, the teams still managed to trade dangerous moments. In the 37th minute, Mantalos was back in the shock position of the guests, but struck with his head in the hands of Shevchenko. And in “Zarya” Kochergin and Kabaev could have distinguished themselves. However, the first did not hit the final blow in the 42nd minute, and the second, finding himself just in front of the goal without guardianship in the 44th minute, hit both over the goalkeeper and over the crossbar.
During the break, Viktor Skripnik made two changes at once, releasing Nazarina and Sayyadmanesh on the field, but the practical drawing of the game did not change. Furthermore, the guests started the second half very aggressively and scored their third goal in the 54th minute. In this episode, Levi showed individual skill. He received the ball on the right flank, moved to the center and, without encountering much resistance from Abu Hannah, shot his left foot into the near corner. Unfortunately, here Shevchenko did not help the team.
0-3 at the beginning of the second half. Obviously, no one expected such a development of events. Zorya’s mentor switched two of his players and seasoned Favorov and Gladkyy entered the game. However, even with his appearance, the guests didn’t get much sharper at the doors. Although the Lugansk team went ahead, somehow they seemed doomed.
And in the 81st minute alone, Kochergin finally managed to force his way through with precision from outside the penalty area. But the home team did not have time to rejoice at the goal scored, as literally seconds later they had to get the ball out of their net for the fourth time that night. Having played from the center, the guests immediately handed the ball forward and Livaya scored a double.
Zorya managed to close the gap in the 88th minute when, after the set was complete, Vernidub fired at the crossbar from close range. That is all the Ukrainian footballers were able to do in the end.
