The police opened a criminal investigation into the disappearance of the mayor of Kharkiv, Gennady Kernes. The statement was presented by the head of one of the public organizations.
This is reported by the National Police of the Kharkiv region.
The applicant stated that there was no contact with Kernes and his whereabouts were unknown.
According to the submitted application, the investigator of the Kharkiv Shevchenkovsky District Police Department opened a case under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (premeditated murder) with the note “missing”.
Recall, Gennady Kernes was taken to the German “Charite” clinic on September 16 due to complications from the coronavirus infection. Since then he has remained in Berlin and the exact date of his return is unknown. Kharkiv’s First Deputy Mayor Igor Terekhov announced that Kernes should return by December 20.
The mayor of Kharkiv city did not run an election campaign, but won the elections in one round. The city’s electoral commission registered Gennady Kernes as re-elected to this position.
