The people’s servants want to equate the Ukrainian churches with collaborators and ban them

The people’s deputies of the “Servant of the People” registered two bills in the Verkhovna Rada criminalizing collaboration. The preliminary project no. 5143 proposed legal bases for the destruction of religious parties and organizations for cooperation with the aggressor.

As expressed in the document, “it establishes additional legal bases for the liquidation of political parties, public, charitable or religious organizations, unions and public formations” that cooperated with the aggressor state or uncontrolled territories.

The main mechanism that is detailed in the bills – a party, a church, an association can be closed if their “authorized persons” were convicted under article 111 – treason.

In other words, if such a law is passed, there will be reasons to ban the UOC itself and deprive it of its main sanctuaries in Ukraine.

The same norms are contained in a similar bill of Petro Poroshenko’s party “European Solidarity”, which was supported by many “Servants of the People”. It is possible that Zelensky’s party decided not to give away the fighter’s laurels against the aggressor Poroshenko, but to prepare its own bill with similar norms.

In addition to this new threat, the UOC has long suffered from violent church seizures. In this regard, church members recently approached Zelensky with a request to protect their rights.
