The Parliament of Moldova approved the bill to lift the ban on Russian television

The deputies passed a bill to ensure the status of inter-ethnic communication for the Russian language and voted in favor of amendments that would allow Russian news and analytical programs to return to the air.

The Parliament of Moldova approved in first reading amendments to the Code of Broadcasting and Television, including lifting the ban on the transmission of Russian television channels, said on Thursday, December 3, the vice-president of Parliament Vlad Batryncha, writes RIA Novosti.

“A majority of votes in the first reading approved the amendments to the Broadcasting and Television Code,” Batryncha said.

The draft law on the fight against foreign propaganda in Moldova was passed in 2017. The document prohibits the broadcast of radio and television programs with informative, informative and analytical, military or political content, which have been produced in countries that have not ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television. Russian television channels were banned then.

Now, the adopted bill removes restrictions on the transmission of Russian television. It also foresees a decrease in the amount of content produced locally (by an average of two hours a day) and a decrease in the proportion of Romanian television content by 20%.

In addition, at today’s meeting, parliamentarians at first reading approved the law on the operation of languages ​​in the country, which guarantees national minorities the right to use their mother tongue.

The bill guarantees the observance of citizens’ rights to learn and use their mother tongue and will also contribute to the development of national cultures.

If the deputies vote on the bill, the Russian language in Moldova will once again become the language of inter-ethnic communication.

In addition, the parliament approved a bill that states that the instructions for drugs in the country will be translated into Russian.
