What is the essence of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh?
The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia began in Nagorno-Karabakh in 1988, when the predominantly Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, 20% of the territory of Azerbaijan, are under occupation by the Armenian armed forces. In May 1994, the parties reached a ceasefire. The territorial conflict has not yet been resolved.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the Armenian armed forces had already fired at the village of Terter. Several houses were then destroyed and some 400 mines were fired. On October 1, 16 civilians were killed in the village, 55 people were injured.
