The German government, which is already in September 2021 will be headed by a new chancellor, can stop the controversial Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project.

In particular, a third of the country’s center-left political forces want this, as do some Christian Democrats, writes Bloomberg.

“Angela Merkel knows that Nord Stream 2 will only last until the federal elections in September,” the agency writes.

As noted, the current chancellor “does not realize” that in the fall in Germany will take place federal elections. After Merkel leaves office, she is expected to Christian Democratic Union will remain in power, but this time in association with “Green”who are categorically against the pipeline.

However, Merkel “does not know” that one day the new conservative green government may announce: “Nord Stream 2 should never have been built and will never contain anything but air,” writes Bloomberg.

As you know, since December 2019, US sanctions have been imposed on Nord Stream 2, thus the laying of underwater pipelines was terminated. On February 7, 2021, the construction operator announced the resumption of works.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that Ukraine’s Ambassador Andriy Melnik accused German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of messing with Moscow. The latter said that Germany cannot ignore the fact that more than 20 million people were victims of the attack on the USSR during World War II.
