The Netherlands stops vaccinating children under 60 with AstraZeneca

The Netherlands stopped AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccines for people under 60 on Friday

The country’s Ministry of Health explained this decision due to the possible formation of blood clots after using the drug.

The Netherlands has suspended AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccines in people under the age of 60 following new reports of new thrombosis. This was announced on Friday, April 2, by the country’s Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports, writes TASS.

The department explained this decision by the fact that this vaccine can have a side effect in the form of blood clots.

These are five cases in the Netherlands affecting women between the ages of 25 and 65, one of whom has died.

“We have to be careful, so it would be wise to press the pause button now as a precautionary measure,” said Health Minister Hugo de Jonge.

The suspension of AstraZeneca injections will continue until April 7, when the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is expected to provide further guidance on the issue, he said.

The GGD public health service said about 10,000 vaccinations scheduled for next week have been postponed for Dutch health workers under the age of 60.

At the same time, the Minister of Health of the Netherlands, Hugo de Jonge, stressed that it is currently unclear if blood clots appear after vaccination or if they were there even before vaccination.

Previously, Germany (for those over 60 years of age) and Canada (for those over 55) have adopted the suspension of vaccination with this drug. Before that, several dozen countries suspended the use of this vaccine, but then most resumed its use.

Before that, we wrote that the head of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Maxim Stepanov, evaluated the quality of the Sinovac vaccine, rating it as effective and safe.

In Great Britain, 30 cases of thrombosis were recorded in vaccinated AstraZeneca
