Ukrainian doctors will try to deal with blood plasma.

Ukrainian doctors will try to treat COVID-19 with blood plasma and will likely add this method to the treatment protocol.

The Ministry of Health is planning a pilot project to collect hyperimmune plasma for the treatment of coronavirus. Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said this in a briefing on Saturday 10 October.

He pointed out that the corresponding decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers the day before.

“We have adopted an important decree on the beginning of the implementation of a pilot experimental project for the collection of hyperimmune plasma. With the manufacture of immunoglobulin.”

Stepanov explained that hyperimmune plasma is plasma from people who have already had COVID-19, it contains antibodies.

“Now in many leading countries around the world, clinical trials are being carried out specifically on immunoglobulin, which is made from such plasma. We are also starting this process. First, we need to collect the plasma and then transfer it to the manufacture of this immunoglobulin. , so that later, in the framework of clinical trials, it can be used on the territory of Ukraine “, – said Stepanov.

According to him, immunoglobulin, which has already passed clinical trials in Ukraine, that is, was used to treat COVID-19 patients, showed “good results”.

“We plan to include it in the protocol for the treatment of coronavirus disease. Of course, if our doctors who are part of this commission so decide. Previously, after speaking with them, they have such an opinion to include it in the protocol,” he said the minister, highlighting that it is expected to have a greater benefit and a greater effect in the treatment of coronavirus disease.

Recall that during the last day in Ukraine registered the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 – 108. Stepanov also said that yesterday a record number of patients were hospitalized – almost a thousand.
