The Ministry of Education of Ukraine is considering starting to teach children in schools from the age of five.
According to Education Minister Sergei Shkarlet, this was proposed at a meeting in the department with the leadership of the regional departments.
He cited as an example that in some countries of the European Union they begin their education in schools from this age and graduate at 17.

“This proposal was also heard at today’s meeting in the Ministry of Education with the heads of regional administrations. It is worth discussing, taking into account the standards of the New School of Ukraine, and debating in teachers’ councils, in the advanced training institutes, with the parents. The Ministry is considering all the proposals for and against. ” – He noticed.
Shkarlet clarified that no decisions will be made until the optimal options have been worked out.
The minister also called the refusal of the 12-year school education false.
“The discussion, which has been going on for several years in the educational community about the moment of beginning and ending of school education, in no case foresees the return of the ten-year period,” he emphasized.
Shkarlet added that the 12-year system is pan-European.
