Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said the May 9 parade in honor of Victory Day in the country will not be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Belta agency.
According to him, this is something emotional, deeply ideological.
“I must say that we cannot cancel the parade. We simply cannot. I thought about it for a long time. Of course, this is something emotional and deeply ideological. We must remember that those people (participants in the war, – ed.) Were dying, maybe from viruses, other diseases, but sometimes they didn’t feel it and they didn’t think about it. And they died for us, no matter how pathetic it may sound. And think what people will say. Maybe not immediately, in a day, two after that, – they will say they were scared, “Lukashenko said.
At the same time, he warned organizers that in the event of a parade, “no one should be dragged into this event.”
“People do not want to, they are afraid, they are taking care of their health, we will understand. Today there are enough people who want it, thousands and thousands of people want this event to be held,” said the President of Belarus.
Recall, earlier, a WHO representative reported that Belarus is ahead of neighboring countries in terms of the COVID-19 distribution rate. He noted that the spread of this virus in the country is one of the fastest among European countries.
Despite this, Lukashenko opposes the introduction of quarantine in Belarus, saying that citizens “do not need it.”
