“If there is the threat of a total collapse of the medical system, we will insist on the introduction of stricter measures. For us, the main indicator is the number of people hospitalized. If we start from the current percentage of seriously ill patients who are hospitalized, I think that the indicator is almost 30 thousand patients a day during a certain period can cause serious problems when entering the medical system, “said Stepanov.

According to him, at this time, the medical system can allocate 75-80 thousand beds to provide medical care to patients with COVID-19. At the same time, as of November 20, there were 27,902 patients in hospitals with a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of COVID.

“We have found an opportunity to increase the number of beds in hospitals to receive COVID-19 patients. If we were talking about 51 thousand beds, now we are talking about 75-80 thousand beds in the country as a whole. In other words, the capacity of the medical system will increase ”, explained the minister.

Stepanov emphasized that compliance with the rules against the epidemic, in particular those provided for by the weekend quarantine, will prevent the collapse of the medical system and the introduction of a complete lockdown.

“I am absolutely sure, and our epidemiologists are of the same opinion, if we adhere to the measures introduced in the country, we can stop the spread of COVID-19. If we stop at 12-13 thousand new cases per day, our system will. will hold. ” summarized the head of the Ministry of Health.
