The transformation of the Kiev Sports Palace into a hospital for those infected with COVID-19 was discussed in a meeting with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, said Mikhail Radutsky, Servant of the People people’s deputy.

The Kiev Sports Palace can be converted into a hospital for patients with coronavirus infection. On October 11, the Servant of the People deputy, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada National Health Committee, Mikhail Radutsky, announced this on Facebook.

According to him, this was discussed at a meeting on coronavirus infection, which was attended by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. At the meeting, several decisions were made that should improve the epidemic situation in the country.

“By order of the president, preparations are underway to deploy large infectious disease hospitals in Kiev, Odessa, Mariupol in case of an overload of first and second wave medical institutions … We plan to locate hospitals in large existing facilities. In Kiev, this could be the Sports Palace, “he wrote.

According to the people’s deputy, there is still no need for such hospitals, but one must be “fully prepared” for such development of events.

“All the necessary equipment is being purchased so that the new hospitals can start operating in a matter of days,” Radutsky explained.



In Ukraine, until October 11, more than 261 thousand cases of coronavirus infection were registered, of which 4,768, on the last day. 4,972 COVID-19 patients died, 112,570 patients recovered.

Kiev leads among the country’s regions in the number of cases of coronavirus infection: more than 27 thousand.

Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Health and Chief Medical Officer Viktor Lyashko also named the Exhibition Center and the hospitals of the Academy of Medical Sciences as possible locations to organize additional hospitals in the capital.
