Dutch journalist Daniel Verlaan was able to connect to a secret videoconference of the EU defense ministers, having seen a login and a part of a pin code in one of the photos on social media.

Daniel Verlaan, a journalist for the Dutch RTL Nieuws, participated in a secret videoconference held by the heads of the defense ministries of the European Union. About this on November 20 on Twitter reported the representative of the EU anti-corruption unit Michiel van Hulten.

He also posted a video of the incident.

“Verlaan hacked the EU defense ministers meeting. This is what it looked like from the inside. A golden comedy,” Hulten wrote.

RTL Nieuws explained that access to the secret event was obtained after Dutch Defense Minister Ankh Beyleveld’s Twitter account “briefly” featured a photo with a login and five of the six-digit pin codes to enter a video conferencing. It turned out that there is no additional cyber defense.

Verlaan introduced himself to the ministers as a journalist from the Netherlands.

As the confidentiality of the meeting was compromised, the videoconference was stopped.

The Dutch Ministry of Defense said that the publication of the photo with the login information was a “stupid mistake”, it has already been removed.
