The Interior Ministry named the possible causes of the fires in the Lugansk region

As a result of the fires, 11 people died, 150 were evacuated, 2.5 thousand people worked on extinguishing. Police are considering arson as a possible cause of the fire.

The Interior Ministry does not exclude that the cause of the fires in the Lugansk region was sabotage. This was stated by the adviser to the head of the Interior Ministry, Zoryan Shkiryak, on Air Ukraine 24 on Monday, October 5.

Shkiryak says that the situation with the fires in the Lugansk region remains difficult.

“150 people were evacuated. Unfortunately, 11 dead, of which three died of a heart attack. The cause of death of four is being established, the rest died from the consequences of the fire, suffocated by smoke, received burns”, Shkiryak said.

According to the official, 2.5 thousand people from the personnel of the units of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defense participated in the extinguishing of the fire.

“The main outbreaks in the Lugansk region have already been eliminated, now we are actively working to locate one of the outbreaks and eliminate the consequences of the fires. Aviation is involved, the pilots are working in very difficult and dangerous conditions associated not only with the weather and the fires, but also with the fact that everything is happening on the contact line, “he said.

In addition, 11 criminal proceedings have been opened under various articles, from arson to careless handling of fire.

“Once again, we remind you that the weather has become one of the factors in such fires. Personally, I think we can speak of sabotage,” summarized Shkiryak.

OSCE assesses damage caused by fires in Lugansk region

Remember that earlier in the Lugansk region there was a new fire, ammunition exploded. Rescuers stopped the spread of the fire, but as a result of the fire, unexploded projectiles began to detonate there.

Later it became known that military warehouses were saved from the fire in the Luhansk region. The situation with the elimination of fires was aggravated due to unfavorable weather conditions and mined areas.
