The International Criminal Court in The Hague has published a new report on the situation in Ukraine. The ICC Prosecutor’s Office has completed a preliminary analysis of the situation.
This is stated in the ICC report dated December 14.
It appears from the report that the ICC prosecutor’s office has completed a preliminary analysis of events during the Maidan, the seizure and occupation of Crimea and the war in Donbass.
In particular, it was established that in Crimea, before and during the occupation by Russia, crimes such as deportation, murder, torture, kidnapping, coercion to serve in the army of the occupying country and others were committed.
In Donbas, the ICC prosecutor’s office recorded premeditated killings, attacks on civilian objects, rape and other forms of sexual violence.
The ICC prosecutor’s office declares that there are reasons to initiate a process for the above events, since the national investigation bodies of Ukraine and Russia are inactive or cannot punish those responsible.
At the same time, Russia completely refused to respond to requests from the International Criminal Court.
“She (the ICC Prosecutor’s Office – Ed.) Received responses from Ukraine on national procedures, but did not receive a response to inquiries sent to the Russian Federation,” the report says.
The decision to open an investigation will be made after the election of a new ICC prosecutor and consultation with him. The ICC looks forward to working with the governments of Ukraine and Russia.
As a reminder, on December 11, the ICC prosecutor announced the completion of the preliminary study of the case on the situation in Ukraine. The prosecutor said she would initiate an investigation.
