The UN Court will finalize the MH17 case no later than the end of 2023

The process in the UN court is only one of the three blocks in the case, the ministry recalled.

The International Court of Justice will complete the consideration of the case of the downed flight MH17 no later than the end of 2023. This was stated by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Yevgeniy Yenin, on the air Ukraine 24 on Monday, February 8.

Yenin recalled that the process in the UN court is only one of the three tracks in the case, therefore it is necessary to distinguish between three separate tracks of the investigation of the MH17 disaster over occupied Donbas.

“The first is the criminal-legal block, this is the Hague court. The other block is the prosecution of the Russian Federation as a state, the claim of Ukraine in the international tribunal of the United Nations. And the third direction is the collective complaint of the Netherlands and Ukraine against Russia at the ECHR. All of them aim to bring responsibility to Russia, its leadership and all those involved, “Yenin said.

The diplomat recalled that the investigation is still ongoing, so the appearance of new suspects or accused in the case cannot be ruled out.

“In the UN court, we see attempts by the Russian Federation to delay consideration of the case on the merits. As of today, we have a preliminary schedule of proceedings in the UN court, which should end with a final decision at least by the end of 2023, “he added.

We recall, on February 1 in the Netherlands, that the Hague District Court continued the trial in the case of the downed Boeing-777.

It was also reported that the merits hearing in the case of flight MH17 shot down over Donbas was scheduled for June 7, 2021.

The judges have previously denied requests to investigate alternative disaster scenarios. The corresponding petition was presented by the defense of the Russian Oleg Pulatov.
