The European Union reacted to the diplomatic dispute between Ukraine and Hungary

The disagreements between Ukraine and Hungary are a matter of bilateral relations between the two countries, said the representative of the European Commission Peter Stano.

The diplomatic dispute between Kiev and Budapest will in no way change the position of the European Union on cooperation with Ukraine. This was announced on October 27 by the representative of the European Commission Peter Stano at a briefing in Brussels, reports “Evropeyskaya Pravda”.

“This is a matter of bilateral relations between the two countries, and the only thing the EU can do is ask all parties to solve the problem on the basis of good neighborly relations,” Stano said.

He noted that Ukraine is an important partner of the European Union.

“We have signed an ambitious Association Agreement and continue our cooperation to bring Ukraine closer to the EU as closely as possible. There are no changes in the EU policy towards Ukraine,” said the European Commission official.

When asked what the European Union will do if Hungary starts blocking decisions regarding Ukraine that require the unanimous approval of all member states, Stano said: “The EU continues to cooperate with Ukraine, based on a certain list of criteria. and expectations, and I won’t speculate, maybe it will change. “

On October 25, local elections were held throughout Ukraine, except for annexed Crimea and the occupied regions of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Citizens of Ukraine elected heads of cities, towns and municipalities, as well as deputies of regional, district, city, town and village councils. The elections were held for the first time in accordance with the new Electoral Code, according to the proportional system with open lists.

On October 19, in Transcarpathia, State Secretary for National Policy Janos Arpad Potap campaigned for the Hungarian Party, the Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Society (KMKS “Party of the Hungarians of Ukraine”), reported the civic network Opora. Peter, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Siyjarto, on the day of the vote, called on Hungarians living in Transcarpathia to support the KMKS. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine testified about direct interference in internal affairs and disrespectful attitude towards the laws of Ukraine. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said Ukraine has banned two senior Hungarian officials from entering the country due to the campaign for local elections in the Transcarpathian region. Siyjarto called this decision “pathetic”.
