The chancellor has yet to decide whether actions against Moscow in this regard will affect Nord Stream 2.
Russia’s response to the incident with Alexei Navalny must be coordinated with its European partners, it must not be just German, believes German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Bloomberg reports this with reference to an official from the Christian Democratic Union party.
“He noted that Merkel did not make a final decision on whether the reaction against Moscow (in relation to the incident with Navalny – ed.) Could affect Nord Stream 2,” the agency writes.
Merkel reportedly pointed out that this was not an attack on Germany, but Germany should also assert itself as an EU member state.
“However, one must also listen carefully to what the EU partners say, close coordination is necessary. The next step is for Russia. Then the EU must make a common decision,” Merkel said.
Recall that German politicians began to appear demands to review participation in the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline after statements that Navalny was poisoned with a nerve agent from the Novichok group.
At the same time, the German Foreign Ministry said that the Navalny problem does not concern Nord Stream-2.
