Former Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Monobank co-founder Dmitry Dubilet joined the group that won third place in the competition for the design of the great state emblem of Ukraine. In their opinion, this team found an original technique that was not appreciated by the commission.
The former minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, co-founder of Monobank Dmytro Dubilet said on Facebook that he is part of the group that developed the sketch of a large coat of arms of Ukraine, which took third place in the competition.
He said a group of 12 people worked on creating the sketch. Among them is one of the creators of the small coat of arms of Ukraine, the trident, the artist and heraldist Ivan Turetsky.
According to Dubilet, in the sketches they encrypted the binary code 0101010101000001, which means UA – Ukraine.
“We found, as it seems to me, a very original technique. This symbolizes the modernity of Ukraine, the commitment to digital development, the IT industry (in all projects, only the agricultural industry is represented in the emblem). This code It is not visible if you do not know it. But it would be a very original movement that all the world press would write about, “he said.
According to Dubilet, the commission did not evaluate or understand this idea.
In addition, in one of the sketches of his team there is a woman with a book and an olive branch, the book is a symbol of knowledge, the olive tree is peace. He believes that this image would complement a Cossack with a weapon, the presence of which on the large emblem is provided for by the Constitution.
The former minister criticized the sketch that won the contest: in his opinion, there should be no religious symbols in the symbolism of a secular state (an archangel holding a shield).
“Does Ukraine need a big coat of arms in general? Of course, this is not the most important question, but it is nevertheless detailed in the Constitution … If we had chosen a really cool and progressive coat of arms, we would have declared ourselves to all the world. […] Our group made all the options in a rather laconic style. We deliberately increased the size of the trident and did not place anything on top of it, so that the coat of arms does not look like a grandmother’s sideboard, but instead has an accent on the small coat of arms, “Dubilet noted and posted a photo of the sketches.
On August 25, the Rada of Ukraine ordered the Cabinet of Ministers to hold a competition for the best sketch of the great state emblem of Ukraine.
On September 30, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a draft resolution on the contest. He reported that the best projects of the great state emblem will be awarded prizes: UAH 100 thousand, UAH 50 thousand and UAH 30 thousand.
On November 19, Ukraine’s Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko announced that the winner of the contest was artist Oleksiy Kokhan, co-author of the small coat of arms. Dubilet said second place was not awarded.
The director of the Institute of National Commemoration of Ukraine, Anton Drobovich, said that the jury chose the best sketch of the large state emblem from what was provided by the authors. According to him, among the coats of arms “there was nothing that perfectly resembled the coat of arms of the small state.”
The list of state symbols is determined by art. 20 of the Constitution of Ukraine. These include the flag, the anthem, and the large and small coats of arms. The small coat of arms, a golden trident on a blue background, was approved by the Verkhovna Rada in February 1992. The Constitution states that “the main element of the great state emblem of Ukraine is the sign of the princely state of Volodymyr the Great ( the small state emblem of Ukraine) “.
Competitions for the best design of the coat of arms have already been held several times, but the parliament has not yet approved their results.
