The new leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Yoshihide Suga, will take over as Japan’s prime minister on September 16, after parliament formally elects him as the new prime minister.

The new leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Yoshihide Suga, will take over as Japan’s prime minister later on Wednesday after parliament officially elects him as its new prime minister.
Following the announcement by his government members, Suga will be formally introduced in a ceremony at the Imperial Palace on the same day.
Sugi’s term will last until September 2021, the date on which Abe’s term as LDP leader would end.
On August 28, Abe announced his intention to resign. According to him, he made this decision because he “cannot make correct judgments due to illness.”
Suga was elected the new leader of the PLD on September 14.
