In the United States, the antiviral drug Remdesivir (brand name Veklury) has been approved for the treatment of patients with coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.
Veklury is the first COVID-19 drug to receive agency approval, according to the FDA website.
In May, the regulator already authorized the use of Remdesivir in emergency cases. Now the department has emphasized that the permit does not apply to all patients, but to those who require hospitalization.
Previously, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, was treated with Remdesivir, who was hospitalized with COVID-19 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in early October. In addition, the head of state was designated “Dexamethasone” and injected with a cocktail of antibodies.
The website of Veklury’s manufacturer, Gilead Sciences, states that the drug can be used by adults and children over 12 years of age and weighing at least 40 kg, and only in a hospital setting. The manufacturer also indicated the dosage, contraindications and possible side effects.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, on October 13, the head of the Health Ministry, Maxim Stepanov, said that Ukrainian hospitals would receive the drug Remdesivir for the coronavirus within a week.
The state’s chief medical officer, Viktor Lyashko, confirmed that Ukraine has already purchased Remdesivir and that it is being transported to the country.
