Monday night in Los Angeles Vasily Lomachenko underwent surgery on his right shoulder. Dr. Neil Elattrach discussed the details of the surgical procedure.
“When he came from Ukraine for the last stages of preparing for the fight, he had shoulder problems. It turned out that he seriously injured his rotator cuff and broke a piece of cartilage, which we did not suspect at the time. But we knew that he seriously injured his rotator cuff and severely injured the bone where the rotator cuff was attached to the shoulder. It was like six weeks before the fight and we took him where he was comfortable enough to train. He said he was able to exercise normally, but it continued to hurt during the fight. We operated on Vasily on Monday night, ”said the surgeon.
In general, the operation was not as serious as after Lomachenko’s injury in 2018 after the fight with Jorge Linares. Vasily won’t be able to box until the end of January, but there should be no problem resuming his career.
Anatoly Lomachenko is reported to have offered to postpone the fight, but Vasily refused under threat of ending his career.
