Efremov said that after the accident “tied” with alcohol
The defense sought to replace the royal term with a suspended sentence. The prosecution argued that the original sentence, eight years in prison, not be modified.
The Moscow Municipal Court, which considered the appeal of actor Mikhail Efremov, commuted his sentence from eight to seven and a half years in a general regime colony. The lawyers asked the court to impose a four-year suspended sentence on the artist, writes RIA Novosti on Thursday, October 22.
The court took into consideration as a mitigating circumstance the voluntary compensation of those convicted for moral damage to the victims.
Efremov said he sincerely regretted the crime he had committed. Recall that due to the guilt of a celebrity in the summer of 2020, the driver-messenger of the online store Sergey Zakharov died in an accident.
“I want to go back to work, as soon as possible to see my children. I also want to erect a monument to the late Sergei Zakharov, if his family doesn’t mind. But I can do it only after my release,” Efremov said during the consideration of his appeal.
He also added that he “ended his entire relationship with alcohol,” which brought it “to such a deplorable end.”
One of the artist’s lawyers asked for a four-year sentence of probation.
The prosecutor insisted that the verdict must remain in force.
An accident involving Mikhail Efremov occurred in central Moscow. His SUV ran into the oncoming lane and collided with a pickup truck, the driver of which later died in hospital.
The examination showed that Efremov was drunk at the time of the accident.
Mikhail Efremov was previously reported to have shaved his head. After the sentence, the actor is in jail, where he managed to shave his head. He has two neighbors in his cell.
We also wrote that Efremov sent a letter from the remand center. In the message, the artist spoke about the verdict and what he thinks of his former lawyer Elman Pashaev.
