Verkhovna Rada MP Oleksandr Yurchenko, expelled from the Servant of the People faction, is suspected of accepting a bribe for amendments to one of the bills. The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court chose it as a preventive measure in the form of arrest on bail.

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (VAKS) arrested People’s Deputy Oleksandr Yurchenko with the opportunity to be released on bail in the amount of 3,001,656 UAH, reports the GORDON correspondent.

Therefore, the prosecution’s request was partially granted.

The judge ruled that Yurchenko should have been detained in the courtroom.

The preventive measure expires on November 9.

According to NABU, the Popular Deputy “in a veiled way” requested to transfer $ 13 thousand through an intermediary to make proposals to the bill related to the sphere of household waste, and more than $ 200 thousand for bribery of the people’s deputies – members of the Rada profile committee.

Attorney General Irina Venediktova signed Yurchenko’s suspicion on September 17. On the same day, Yurchenko received a suspicion, was expelled from the Servant of the People faction and was also interrogated at NABU and SAP.

The head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky, said he expects “more demonstration prisons” in corruption cases and that Yurchenko “will definitely go to jail.”

People’s deputy last week did not appear in court, where they planned to choose a preventive measure for him. His failure to appear was motivated by the fact that he had previously had contact with a patient with COVID-19.

Today, during the VAKS meeting, Yurchenko denied the bribery allegations and called himself a fighter for justice.

Yurchenko became the first acting people’s deputy, charged with criminal responsibility and arrested without the consent of the Verkhovna Rada.
