Ukraine’s chief medical doctor Viktor Lyashko said doctors and scientists do not know how the coronavirus will behave in the future, therefore he warned against the complete abolition of quarantine restrictions.
The coronavirus epidemic in Ukraine is on the plateau during the third week, when the number of new cases of COVID-19 infection is relatively stable. About this in the air of the program “Freedom of expression of Savik Schuster” May 8, said Chief Medical Officer, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko.
“We went to a certain plateau. And now this plateau is calming … Today we are on the twentieth day [регистрируем] 350-550 new cases of coronavirus infection per day. We understand what is happening … This is not something new. The same is true when we introduce restrictive measures against the epidemic during the seasonal increase in the incidence of influenza, “he said.
According to Lyashko, quarantine during the influenza and coronavirus epidemic is introduced “not so that people don’t get sick, but to stretch the incidence in time.”
“In the case of influenza, it takes two to three weeks. The causative agent of coronavirus disease is a new infection. We do not know how it will behave more,” said the vice minister.
In this regard, Lyashko added, it is now impossible to completely cancel quarantine restrictions. He recalled that, according to the forecast of the Kiev School of Economics, the abolition of quarantine can cause 140 thousand deaths before the end of the year.
An outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus infection started in December 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization announced the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. As of May 2, 3.97 million people were infected with coronaviruses worldwide, of which 276,000 died, 1.33 million recovered, according to the Johns Hopkins American University.
