During the vote counting in the presidential elections in Moldova, no violations of the country’s Electoral Code were found that could affect the results of the vote, the Constitutional Court said. There they named Maya Sanda the winner of the presidential race.

The Constitutional Court of Moldova today approved the results of the presidential elections and appointed Maia Sandu as the new head of state. This is stated in a message on the court’s website.

“The court confirmed the results of the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova on November 15, 2020 and confirmed the election of Ms. Maia Sandu as President of Moldova,” the statement read.

Clarifies that the vote count did not reveal violations of the country’s Electoral Code, which could affect the electoral results.

“The Court took note of the findings of national and international observers on incitement to hatred and incitement to discrimination, as well as inappropriate messages and statements among candidates that left a notable negative mark on the electoral campaign. The Court stressed that any statement that incites hatred is contrary to the provisions of the Constitution and that relevant national legislation must be improved through the creation of operational controls and sanction mechanisms. On November 15, 2020, the second round of the presidential elections was held in Moldova, Sandu received 57.72% support voters, his opponent Dodon – 42.28%. Sandu inauguration scheduled for December 24th.

MPs from the ruling Socialist Party of Moldova presented a bill on the withdrawal of subordination to the President of the Information and Security Service. SINCEAndu said the document was an attempt by incumbent President Igor Dodon to usurp power and called on citizens to protest. He also called what was happening “abuse.”

On December 7, this law was suspended by the State Constitutional Court.
