Salihorsk head coach Shakhtar Roman Grigorchuk in an exclusive interview for Football.ua talked about winning the championship title and the team’s future plans.

– Roman Iosifovich, congratulations on the title! Tell us your impressions and emotions from yesterday’s fight.
– At the end of the match, I experienced incredible and joyful emotions. The fight was quite tough. We had to win, while it was necessary for the opponent to lose points. During the fight, I tried to put my emotions aside. In such difficult situations, emotions do not help in any way.
So I tried to keep a cool head to follow what was happening on the field, not miss a thing and be able to make the right adjustments and steer the game in the direction we needed to. Thank God we made it through such a difficult match …
– During the match, you knew the score of the match in Minsk (Dynamo Minsk – BATE 0: 0 – A.Sh.)?
– My position is that in such situations I never follow the parallel game. And I even ban the assistants. In life, such situations have already happened more than once. I did not deviate from this principle in yesterday’s game. I didn’t know the result until we scored the third goal. Only after the third goal did I ask how things were in Minsk. Before that, he was not interested in this at all.
– What does this championship mean for the club?
– In the last months that I have been here I felt a lot of tension. After all, for several years Miner was at the top of the rankings, he fought for the championship, but he still could not get the title. This tension was in the air. And yesterday, after the victory, I saw a lot of happy people, both leaders and fans. They had been waiting for this for a long time and were really happy. What people dreamed of for many years happened.
At the same time, I see that this victory will become an impetus for further development. This is what was needed. After all, a lot has been done here for the development of football, but it was still not possible to win the title. And the championship is a confirmation of the correctness of all those efforts, labor, investments. Now the title is there and you need to go further, now there is an impulse to develop more and get new victories.
– You knew after the game that you became Ukraine’s first coach to become the champion of three countries?
– Honestly, I didn’t think of that. He knew he could get into the Europa League group with clubs from four countries. But I found out about this after the match, when they showed me a post in the Ukrainian press. Of course it is nice.
– What are the team’s next plans?
– I would very much like that the problems associated with the coronavirus did not prevent the full training camp. Because in football you need everything to continue as usual, and everything to be systematic. We look forward and plan for training camp to take place. We plan to celebrate them in Turkey. God grant that nothing interferes with this.
– Next season Shakhtar will start in the Champions League. The objective of joining the group and is the corresponding strengthening planned?
– Of course, there are those goals. I see that the club officials dream of great football and are doing a lot for it. Now we will have the opportunity to participate in the Champions League. And to stay there and enter the group, of course, you need to do a very serious, correct and competent selection work. This is mandatory and everyone understands it.
