In some cities, due to litigation, the second round of mayoral elections may be postponed until December.
The second round of elections for mayors in individual cities may not take place in November, as planned, but in December due to possible court proceedings. The Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Serhiy Dubovyk, announced this to Ukrainian News on Monday, October 26.
According to him, according to the calendar plan for local elections, the results must be established for November 6 inclusive, and in accordance with the Electoral Code in cities with more than 75 thousand voters, where on October 25 none of the candidates obtained more than 50% of the votes, the second round. A mayoral election must be called for Sunday within three weeks.
Dubovik explained that if the election results are challenged in court, the second round will be postponed for another week.
“The territorial electoral commissions have 12 days to establish the electoral results. But someone can establish them faster. Therefore, the date of the second round cannot be the same. Furthermore, no one said that these results would not be questioned. In this case, the elections will change. ” before the court makes a decision. At the same time, he suggested that in most cities the vote will be scheduled for November 22 and 29.
