Local commissions on technological and environmental safety and emergencies in Kiev, Kharkov and Sumy should independently strengthen quarantine measures to prevent the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

This was stated by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal after the results of today’s meeting of the State Commission for BTE and Emergencies, reports the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“Local authorities called for more powers to be given to them. They now have enough powers to effectively contain the spread of the coronavirus. I ask that you take the initiative into your own hands and put things in order. This is our shared responsibility,” Shmygal said .

The head of government also instructed the presidents of the Regional State Administration and the State Administration of the capital to provide oxygen to the beds until October 30. According to him, today the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 572 million hryvnia for these needs.

He also instructed the Ministry of Health to develop options for the deployment of additional beds outside of hospitals and the rapid centralized supply of oxygen to them.

Quarantine in Ukraine: what’s happening now

  • Starting at 00:00 hours on Monday, October 12, a new epidemic zoning will come into effect. The indicators change every two weeks. They were updated again today.
  • Under the new zoning, the cities of Sumy and Kanev (Cherkasy region) will be in the “red” zone. Kiev and Kharkov will be in the “orange”.
  • On October 5, the Mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, announced that the capital could hold international football matches in the presence of 30% of the spectators. According to him, Kiev agreed with the proposal of the Football Association of Ukraine to hold international matches under the auspices of UEFA in the presence of fans in the stands.
  • In Ukraine, a new type of restrictions may appear in the near future due to the spread of the coronavirus: the so-called “weekend quarantine”.
